*Macerata Wheels* rolls into *Danville* hiring 100
Next month Macerata Wheels LLC will start to hire 100 workers for its new manufacturing and distribution center opening in Danville.
The company, which plans to build custom wheel rims and other automobile and motorcycle accessories, is set to start manufacturing next fall.
Macerata President Mike Farless has said the market for custom wheels continues to have steady growth, a trend proven over the past decades despite economic recessions. Making these items domestically will provide a quicker delivery turnaround to its customers, he said.
The company chose the site at 1000 Lockett Drive specifically because of the Danville Community College’s highly regarded workforce precision machine and tool program. Machinists trained in the college program can expect to be considered for a job at Macerata that could pay $40,000 a year, Farless said during a news conference.
The company will hire local workers over the next three years.
Danville Office of Economic Development Director Jeremy Stratton said it is programs like this at the college that persuade companies to locate to Danville.
Macerata plans to invest $8 million in its facility, including $6.5 million in equipment. It has received $600,000 in assistance from the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission and has a lease-purchase offer with the Danville Industrial Development Authority to provide the property.
