500 jobs coming to Indian Land

A Chinese yarn spinner plans to invest $218 million in land, a manufacturing facility and a U.S. headquarters in the Indian Land community. Keer America Corp. will create 500 jobs that are expected to pay $13 to $15 an hour, which is higher than Lancaster County’s current average manufacturing salary. Construction should start during the first quarter of 2014, and  production at the new plant could begin by mid-2015.

According to its LinkedIn page, the company is a U.S. subsidiary of The Keer Group, based in Hangzhou, China. The Keer Group is a manufacturer of cotton yarn and specializes in backpacks, luggage and promotional and cooler bags. Founded in 1995 and employing over 2,000 people, it is a leader in the textile manufacturing business.
