Whole Foods Market’s planned expansion into the Lansing area has been formally approved by the Meridian Township’s Board of Trustees. The 35,000-square-foot grocery store will employ approximately 275 people who will staff it from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

The store, located near the campus of Michigan State University, is planned to open in  2015. It will offer 205 traditional parking spaces and 21 parking spaces for bicycles.

It will be the first Whole Foods in the area and the seventh overall in the state. The company is the eighth-largest food and drug store in the U.S. The stores carry fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, and focus on locally grown and sustainable foods.
