Publix opens eighth Charlotte store

Publix Super Markets will open its third store this month in the Charlotte area on Oct. 22 in Whitehall Commons. The 46,600-square-foot grocery store will have about 125 employees.

The company previously announced plans for 14 stores in the region. This opening is the eighth.

According to its website, Publix is the largest and fastest-growing, employee-owned supermarket chain in the U.S. Founded in 1930, the Lakeland, Florida-based grocer operates 1,083 stores in six states and employs more than 165,000.
