Yarmouth’s VIP Dental Assistant Training grads fill more than 100 jobs

YARMOUTH, Maine — Twelve students recently earned certificates of completion from VIP Dental Assistant Training of Maine, a state-licensed program for those interested in becoming dental assistants. Based at the dental practice of Dr. Brian D. Boynton in Yarmouth, the program attracts students from across the state, and was founded with the goal of helping to fill the more than 100 vacant dental assisting jobs in Maine.

“We have had particular interest from recent and semi-recent high school graduates, looking to break into the healthcare field. Our Friday-only classes attract those with busy schedules and/or who are otherwise employed,” said Marcy Boynton, VIP co-founder.

Dental assisting offers an average salary of $35,000, well above the state median, and Forbes has consistently ranked dental assisting as one of the “15 best jobs,” as a “fastest growing job” for women and young adults, and as a “best job for young people.”

Upon completion, students have more than 88 hours of hands-on training, plus additional academic work, are CPR certified, and prepared to take the DANB Radiation Health and Safety exam and then attain a Maine radiography license for dental assistants.

Those who earned a certificate of completion from the most recent session of VIP Dental Assistant of Maine include the following, organized by county:

Darrius Adams, of Lewiston, a 2012 graduate of Lewiston High School.
Kirsten Copp, of Durham, a 2015 graduate of Freeport High School.
