Bibb County lands $46 million MöllerTech plant to make Mercedes parts, 220 new jobs
CENTREVILLE Al —MöllerTech will build a $46.3 million production plant in Bibb County, manufacturing interior parts for the next generation of Mercedes-Benz SUVs for the Vance plant’s $1.3 billion expansion announced last year.
The plant will be the German auto supplier’s third location in North America, and site preparation should begin later this month with full production going by the end of 2019, company officials said.
The 150,000-square-foot plant, which will be the company’s flagship production facility, will employ about 220 people and be constructed at the Scott G. Davis Industrial Park near the Woodstock community. For career information, click here.
MöllerTech is a German family company that has been associated with the Mercedes brand for several decades. Steve Jordan, President and CEO of MöllerTech’s North American operations, said the plant will call for a “bright, clean, organized” interior.
“White floors, white factory, white walls, which represents quality,” Jordan said. “We will be using some ideas and innovative methods that have proved successful in our European plants, but we won’t have to retro-fit them. We can integrate them into it at the beginning.”
The announcement represents a major development for Bibb County, with a population of about 22,000, with many residents commuting to the Birmingham area for jobs, area officials said.
MöllerTech has two U.S. facilities in Elberton, Ga. and Detroit, Mich. In addition to Mercedes, the company also manufactures interior parts for Audi, BMW, Daimler, GM, Honda, Porsche, Rolls-Royce and Toyota.
